Berettas training has been coming along nicely. Today we were able to take pictures and video of her going over our obstacle course for the first time. This was also her first time leading outside the confines of the arena and she was GREAT! We also gave her her first hose down, introduced her to the spray bottle, and started to teach her to tie. All in all a very productive day for Beretta. Here are some pictures and video.
May 22, 2015 - With our concentration on the Mustang Makeover we let Beretta sit for the past month. We’ll be bringing her back up into full training. She is still looking for a home!
April 10, 2015 - Beretta is doing great. We were able to measure her today. She stands 13.3. We hope to get video of her this weekend.
March 24, 2015 - Worked with Beretta on approach and retreat and leading. She’s gaining more confidence about being touched on her body each day.
March 12, 2015 - We got home to find Beretta out playing with the boys!! Somehow one of the horses must have unlatched her stall so she could go out and play. We’ll bring her back into a training pen on Saturday which is our next working day.

Worked with Beretta more on leading. She’s getting really good at that. She’s a really neat mare to work with because even when she is scared and “spooks” she doesn’t panic and doesn’t go very far. We worked some more on approach and retreat and she finally felt comfortable to let me pet her left side of her neck and shoulder without issue.

More leading practice for Beretta. Still impressed with her behavior in the stall. She is more inclined to freeze when scared than run We really worked on flight distance today and leading. She wasn’t nearly as soft today but she was still good. By the end of the training session I was able to regularly walk up to her and pet her on the forehead without trouble. I started working on simulating rubbing both sides of her head at about 12″ away from actually touching her.

Finally got a chance to rotate Beretta into a training stall. She was EXCELLENT for her first training session. Quiet and didn’t run around much. Already starting to yield to pressure / lead. She’s worried but not flighty or reactive that I have seen so far. Can’t wait to work with her again tomorrow.

Haven’t had a chance to work with Beretta but did get some pictures of her.
March 5, 2015 - Day 2
Miss Beretta LOVES carrots! So much so that we were able to get a drag line on her today using sheer bribery! She was so worried about getting her carrot she didn’t notice that I snapped the lead line on. I’ll let her teach herself how to give to pressure for a day or so and then work on teaching her to lead.
March 4, 2015 - Arrival Day
Worked with Beretta today on basics of turning towards the inside and keeping her eyes on me. We know Beretta likes carrots and is friendly over the fence line so we just need to encourage her confidence with us standing in the pen. She was a good girl and we were able to accomplish our goals within just a few minutes. Here are some pictures from day 1.
